I’ve started noticing too many sites I frequent now feature a Facebook Connect takeover just seconds after I land on a page. It feels like an ad, and it’s annoying.
I’m more than aware of Facebook. I know how to share content via that platform. But I don’t consult my friends on every decision I make, and I’m not interested in being told I should.
So here’s my appeal to social media marketers: find some other way to provide me a ‘custom experience,’ one that doesn’t shove Facebook Connect at me every time I visit a site. You’re supposed to be original. Companies pay you huge dollars to come up with groundbreaking ideas. Why are you repeating the same trope over and over?
